The Ford Explorer ST performance SUV has seen explosive success, making up 21 percent of Explorer sales and inspiring luxury car owners to trade in for a more affordable – but just as high-quality – model. The ST performance trim debuted with the redesign of the Explorer for the 2020 model year, and drivers have been liking what they’re seeing.
Ford has upgraded the Explorer’s performance and on- and off-road handling, as well as the styling, towing capacity, and the power of available engines. This includes a 3.0-liter EcoBoost® engine and a trailer tow package for maximum towing power. The Explorer ST puts out 400 horsepower and 415 lb-ft of torque for thrilling performance, and can seat up to six passengers or turn into 87.8 cubic feet of max cargo space.
Ford will also introduce the new Sport Appearance Package on the 2021 Explorer that releases this summer. The Sport Appearance Package, available only on the XLT trim, adds styling cues inside and out for a more athletic look, including Carbonized Gray accents, dual chrome exhaust tips, and two-tone seats with accent stitching.
The legendary Ford Explorer celebrates its 30th birthday in 2020, having first debuted in 1990. This year also marks another major milestone for the model, as Ford sold its 8 millionth Explorer in January.
