Michigan State Police and the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department recently tested the new 2021 Ford F-150 Police Responder®. They found that American’s sole pursuit-rated pickup truck was the fastest pursuit-rated police vehicle tested, with the best quarter-mile, 0-60 mph, and 0-100 mph times.
“Vehicle acceleration and speed contribute to how quickly first responders can safely arrive at an emergency scene,” said Greg Ebel, Ford police vehicle brand manager. “Shaving even a few seconds off response times can make a big difference.”
In Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department tests, the 2021 F-150 Police Responder reached a quarter-mile in 14.4 seconds, which is 0.4 seconds faster than its closest competitor. Preliminary test results from Michigan State Police showed that the truck had a 0-60 mph time of 5.4 seconds and 0-100 mph time at 13.1 seconds. And it hit a top speed of 120 mph, which is an impressive 15 mph faster than its top speed in the 2020 model year.
Ford accomplished these improvements by adding a new torque-on-demand 4×4 transfer case to the 2021 F-150 Police Responder and increasing its torque. The truck comes with a police-tuned 3.5-liter EcoBoost® engine, which now delivers a best-in-class 500 lb-ft of torque.
