2020 Ford Escape | Brownsville, TX

The all-new 2020 Ford Escape brought home two huge awards during the month of July. In the J.D. Power 2020 APEAL Study, the Escape earned the top spot in its segment. It also earned a comfortable spot on the Wards 10 Best User experiences list.

The APEAL Study stands for The Automotive Performance, Execution, and Layout Study, and uses 40 different factors that combine to determine a driver’s emotional attachment to a certain vehicle. This year, the 2020 Escape was able to grab the fourth spot overall and finished first among compact SUVs. The results of the study show that the Escape is popular because of the exciting driving experience it provides no matter how you intend to use it, making it a top choice for consumers.

The Escape couldn’t stop at just one award, as it was also was able to land on WardsAuto’s 2020 Wards Best User Experiences list. The Wards judges were fans of the Escape’s available 12.3-inch digital cluster display and SYNC® 3 infotainment setup. They mentioned those features as two big reasons they scored the Escape so highly.

WardsAuto judges also mentioned the number of standard features offered by Ford Co-Pilot360™ technologies, making it not only a fun vehicle but a safe one. The blue ambient backlighting, easy-to-use smartphone pairing, and voice commands are the icing on the cake for the judges. All of these features and factors are why the Escape found itself on the list.

Ford Fights Back Against COVID-19

Ford Fights Back | Brownsville, TX

The Ford Motor Company has always given back to the communities it supports. This proud tradition continues as the auto manufacturer gears up to give back during the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic.

In early April, Ford revealed that it would be temporarily converting its Windsor Engine Plant in Canada into a face shield production line. By the end of the first week of April, nearly 4,000 face shields had been produced and distributed to nearby organizations in need. Donations of face shields were made to support police officers, seniors in local nursing homes, and front-line healthcare workers.

Dean Stoneley, Ford of Canada’s CEO, explained that the automaker converted its productions facilities to “help protect the lives of our heroic healthcare professionals and first responders as they continue to treat the most vulnerable among us.”

Stateside, Ford has donated over $500,000 to organizations dedicated to staving off hunger in vulnerable populations within communities local to its Detroit, Michigan, headquarters. Ford has also provided funding for food-insecure children no longer able to regularly obtain hot lunches due to school closings. Additionally, Ford is supporting efforts to assist low-income students at historically black colleges and universities, allowing them to come home following the decision for most institutions to transition to online classes.

All of us at Tipton Ford hope you and your family are staying safe and healthy during this time. We look forward to continuing to serve you.

Truck Bed Protection: 3 Tips to Remember

Truck Bed Protection: 3 Tips to Remember | Brownsville, TX

Your Ford pickup’s bed takes a beating when you load it for work and play — and it’s exposed to the elements, too. Consider these truck bed protection and maintenance tips to keep your vehicle in great shape for whatever you need it to do.

Install a bed liner

Installing a liner is an effective way to ban rust, scratches, dents, and other damage from your truck bed. Drop-in bed liners are the easiest to install or remove. If you want even tougher protection, spray-in liners last longer and form an airtight seal to keep moisture and dirt away from the bed.

Use a tonneau cover

Tonneau covers perform double duty for your truck. Not only do they protect whatever you’re hauling, but they also shield the bed from sun, rain, and dirt. Tonneau covers come in many styles and can be made of soft or hard materials.

Don’t forget the underside

Your truck bed can sustain damage and rust from below, too. To care for it, make sure you keep your vehicle’s underside clean. You can even apply an undercoating spray for more durable protection.

Keep it clean

However you decide to protect your truck bed, make sure you take the time to keep it clean. At the very least, sweep out the dirt, don’t let junk accumulate, and give the bed a good washing every so often.

Helpful Tips for Spring Truck Maintenance

Spring truck maintenance | Brownsville, TX

Winter can be especially harsh on your Ford Ranger, F-150, or Super Duty. This makes it especially important to perform some simple spring truck maintenance. Not only does spring auto care decrease the likelihood of future breakdowns, but it also improves resale value and increases the long-term life of your vehicle. From basic cleaning to checking under the hood, here are a few things you can do to get your truck ready for spring.

While washing your car, it’s especially important to clean the undercarriage. Using your car jack, you can easily lift your truck to spray underneath, getting rid of any dirt, grit, and sand that’s accumulated over the winter. While you’re cleaning, you can also wipe off residue from the battery using a toothbrush, baking soda, and water — just be sure to be careful around electrical equipment. Removing battery corrosion will get your truck ready for warmer temperatures.

Next, replace the wipers and check your tire pressure. Air pressure increases with warmer weather, which means your truck tires will likely be underinflated when the spring arrives. While you’re down there, look for any bulging, cracking, or bald spots on the tires, signs that the tires may need to be replaced.

Finally, top off fluids and check belts and hoses. Change the oil if necessary, but also be sure to pay attention to coolant, brake fluid, and transmission fluid levels. If you’re low on coolant, oil, or transmission fluid, you might have a leak. If the brake fluid is low, it may be time to replace the brake pads.

Ford F-150 Raptor: Coil Spring Suspension

F-150 Raptor Coil Spring Suspension | Brownsville, TX

One of the oldest automotive designs still in use today is the leaf spring suspension. It is currently used on the Ford F-150 and is known for its simplicity and effectiveness. However, recently, a Ford F-150 Raptor prototype was spied using a coil spring suspension.

According to Automotive News, Ford will not confirm if F-150 Raptor coil spring suspension will be a thing in the future. Coil spring suspension systems are more complex than leaf spring suspensions and often offer superior off-road performance, which would be a great addition to the F-150 Raptor.

A coil spring suspension can help give a truck a smoother, less bouncy ride. It is often the preferred choice for high-performance trucks and is a newer addition to the automotive industry. It first appeared on pickup trucks during the 1960s.

Another benefit to coil spring suspension systems is that they lend themselves well to customization with additions like sway bars and stiffer springs. You will almost always see them on highly-modified off-road trucks.

As for the current leaf spring suspension system, it still delivers trusted performance that can withstand heavy loads and is less expensive to install and maintain than a coil spring suspension. Leaf spring suspensions are the preferred setup for normal, on-road driving.

Whether you like to drive on or off road, Tipton Ford has the perfect Ford truck for you.
