Harlingen, Texas is located just 30 miles from the Gulf of Mexico. It’s a beautiful place to live, and it’s packed with culture, history, and things to do and see. Here are some of our favorite things to do in Harlingen.
Iwo Jima Memorial & Museum
This museum honors the Battle of Iwo Jima, fought between the U.S. Marines and the Imperial Army of Japan in 1945. Pay what you can as a donation to step inside the museum and watch the educational video, and then check out the large sculpture that served as the original model for the statue now located in Arlington Cemetery in Virginia.
Hugh Ramsey Nature Park
If you’re visiting Harlingen on a nice day, you can’t miss the Hugh Ramsey Nature Park. This beautiful sanctuary is made up of 55 acres of woods, and features walking trails, wildlife viewing, and birdwatching.
World Birding Center
Harlingen is home to one of nine sites located in the Rio Grande Valley that make up the World Birding Center. At the Harlingen Arroyo Colorado location, you can expect to see Olive Sparrows, Long-billed Thrashers, Groove-billed Ani, and the endangered Red-crowned Parrots.
